Dranesville District Field Facts.
John Foust is running for re-election as the Dranesville District Supervisor. He is proud of the efforts he has made, and the success he has had, getting additional synthetic turf fields in the Dranesville District. John’s opponent spent 16 years on the Herndon Town Council and never got a single turf field in the Town. Nevertheless, supporters of John’s opponent have handed out flyers, circulated petitions and sent out emails that contain a great deal of false and misleading information regarding John’s support for youth programs in general, and for youth sports in particular. While meeting the ever increasing needs for expanded field capacity is a challenge, over the four years he has been in office, John has done more than any County Supervisor to increase the number of synthetic turf fields in his district. The following are the facts.

Strong Fiscal Management and Economic Development.
Since he joined the Board of Supervisors in 2008, John has focused on the county’s fiscal challenges and economic development issues. He is the Vice-chairman of the Board’s Budget Committee, Chairman of the Board’s Audit Committee, Chairman of the Fairfax County Economic Advisory Commission, and Vice-chairman of the Mosaic Community Development Authority. John is working to relieve the tax burden on homeowners by controlling costs and diversifying sources of County revenues. Despite dramatically increased demands for county services, the tax burden on the average homeowner is less today than when John took office four years ago.

Creating Transportation Solutions
Congestion is the biggest threat we face to our quality of life and our ability to attract and retain good jobs in our region. John is working on real solutions that emphasize public transit, especially rail, to reduce the number of cars on our roads. He is also working to make our communities safer and more accessible for bicyclists and pedestrians, to implement effective transportation demand management programs, to improve bus service, and to improve intersections and roads including widening of Route 7 from Tysons Corner to Reston Avenue. John also knows that in order to address congestion, we must implement intelligent land use policies that are coordinated with transportation, including significant road improvements in and around transit oriented developments.

Supporting a First Class School System
John believes the community’s most important obligation to our youth is to provide them with the opportunity to earn a first class education. He was a strong advocate of the successful effort to bring full day kindergarten to all elementary schools in Fairfax County. We have some of the best schools in the nation and John will continue to work to keep them great and to make them even better.

Making Smart Decisions About Land Use and Growth
John was raised in Western Pennsylvania in a small town where the local economy was devastated when the steel mills closed. He knows the hardships families and communities suffer when the local economy is depressed and there are no jobs. Living in Northern Virginia for over 30 years, he has also seen and experienced the many benefits of working and raising a family in a region with a strong and growing economy. However, he knows that as our region grows, we must anticipate and provide adequate infrastructure to address the traffic and other impacts of that growth.
